Steve Davis is the last musician drummer Art Blakey hired 30 years ago, and he is now among the 21

 century’s most respected and in-demand jazz trombonists. He’s released 20 albums as a leader and played on dozens more with the likes of his mentor Jackie McLean, plus Chick Corea, Avishai Cohen and Freddie Hubbard. Steve continues to share lessons learned as a Jazz Messenger. Following Blakey’s example, he makes a practice of surrounding himself with the best players on the scene, including his Correlations Band—trumpeter Joshua Bruneau, tenor saxophonist Abraham Burton, pianist Anthony Wonsey, bassist Dezron Douglas and drummer Jason Tiemann. They are going to pay tribute to Blakey at Café Bohemia, where the legendary drummer and the Jazz Messengers made an acclaimed live album in 1955.
